Bio

The click of the shutter captures his vision onto a still frame of time. John Stalowy became enamored of the power of those captured moments in 1973 when he first took up photography.
The lines and shadows of buildings were his first subjects, as John centered his focus on architectural photography and black and white fine art. The mentors he studied under are some of the most celebrated of our time; including photographer Ansel Adams printers Howard Bond and George DeWolfe, as well as John Sexton, George Lepp, Marc Hauser, Will Crocket, Richard Neuman and Tim Grey..
A move to Montana brought John in touch with the natural beauty of endless landscapes under the big, blue skies. This transition to a new subject matter, captured and processed with the finest digital equipment available, has resulted in some of the best images of John’s photography career.
John continues to work in both black and white, and in color, and prints in both the traditional wet darkroom as well as digital imaging processing.
John’s photographic eye captures everything from the rugged vista of the landscape of the west, to delicate church steeples piercing the sky, to tender portraits of a moment in time. His attention to detail and passion for his art manifests itself along every step of the process; from capturing the image to framing the final product.
